Apfel-Pie

Zutaten

- 775 g cooking apples, peeled und cored
- 50 g caster sugar
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 50 g diced butter
- 50 g diced white baking vegetable fat
- 175 g plain flour
- Milk to glace
- 15 g granulated sugar, for sprinkling

- Cut apples into thick slices. Arrange half the slices in the bottom of a greased 900ml shallow pie dish. Sprinkle the caster sugar and cloves among the apples in the base of the tin. Add 3 tbsp cold water

- To make pastry: add the diced butter and vegetable fat to the flour in a large bowl. Rub together with fingertips until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add 2 tbsp cold water and mix to a firm dough. Roll out dough on a floured surface. Lift dough on to dish and trim edges. Chill in the fridge for 30 mins. Preheat oven to 200 °C/Fan 180 °C/400 °F/gas 6. Brush pie with a little milk and sprinkle sugar on top. Make a small slit in the centre for stream to escape. Bake in oven for 40–45 mins, until apples are tender and pastry is golden
