Scarecrow Cake Rezept

Zutaten

  •     Two 2½ quart oven-proof glass bowls (see image attached of glass bowl) 
  •     3 ¾” deep 8 ¾” across top 
  • 3   boxes Duncan Hines Butter Golden cake mix 
  • 9   eggs 
  • 2   cups water 
  •     1 ½ cups softened butter 
  •     OR 
  • 14   cups cake batter

Heat oven to 325ºF. Generously butter and flour bowls

For cake mix: Make 2 cake mixes according to package directions, using 6 eggs, 1 1/3 cups water and 1 cup softened butter. Transfer 7 cups batter to first bowl; the remainder to second bowl. Make third cake mix, using 3 eggs, 2/3 cup water and ½ cup butter. Each bowl should have 7 cups batter. Bake for about 1 hour, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. If cake begins to brown too quickly, lay a piece of aluminum foil coated with cooking spray over top. Cool 10 min., remove from bowl and cool on cooling racks. When cool, return cakes to bowls and trim cakes flush with rim of bowl

3 pkgs. (16 oz. each) cream cheese frosting

1 pkg. (16 oz.) chocolate frosting

1 pkg. each, yellow and white candy melts
6.
4 tsp. vegetable shortening (Crisco)
7.
brown, yellow and orange gel food coloring
8.
16 golden cookie sticks, like Oreo or pirouette-style cookies (for hair)
9.
1 box Pringles Honey Stix or other thin cracker (for hair)
10.
1 piece sugar-coated sour candy ribbon (green colored) (for mouth)

1 bag regular candy coated chocolate disks, like M&M’s (
12.
1 bag mini candy coated chocolate disks, like M&M’s (brown for eyes, orange and yellow for neck collar, orange for nose, )
13.
4 bite size mini chocolate sandwich cookie, like Oreo’s minis (for eyes)
14.
1 pkg. sour candy mega buttons (pink for nose)
15.
2 pkg. old-fashioned flat blue taffy, like Hammond’s (for hat and eyes)
16.
1 pkg. (7 oz.) waffle ice cream bowls, like Joy (for hat)

2 bars bittersweet chocolate, chopped

Dark chocolate leaves

Melt yellow candy melts according to package directions, adding 2 tsp. shortening to thin, and yellow coloring gel for desired color. Stir until smooth. Cut cookie sticks in half and dip half into yellow mixture. Place on a wax-paper lined baking sheet until firm. Repeat with white candy melts, adding 2 tsp. shortening to thin, and orange and copper coloring gel to reach desired orange color; dip remaining cookie sticks and allow to firm up

Melt chocolate in microwave safe bowl at 30 sec. intervals, stirring until smooth. Dip rim of 1 waffle bowl into chocolate; set aside to cool. Cut 2 waffle bowls into 6 wedges each and dip wide ends into chocolate; cool

To assemble: Using brown food coloring, color cream cheese frosting to beige/tan color. Place one cake on serving platter, flat side up. Spread liberally with cream cheese frosting; cover with second cake layer to form a ball. Spread seam surface with frosting to smooth; frost cake. Dip spatula in hot water to smooth frosting. Brush surface lightly with a pastry brush to give texture to frosting

Pipe chocolate frosting rosettes at base of cake with decorating bag fitted with open star tip, like Wilton #195 or #32. Press brown and orange candies into centers of rosettes. Arrange dark chocolate leaves slightly under rosettes to create a collar

Make face: Remove one side of 2 mini chocolate sandwich cookies, keeping the filling intact. Press cookie into cake, filling side out. Mold bits of blue taffy into circles; adhere to cookie filling with small dab of frosting. Adhere 2 mini chocolate candies to blue circles; dot with white frosting or melted white chocolate. Press 1 red/pink candy mega button into cake for nose. Adhere red chocolate candy with frosting. Pipe X on nose and pipe mouth using chocolate frosting and decorating bag fitted with plain tip, like Wilton #4. Cut 2 circles from sugar-coated green sour candy ribbon using large end of piping tip. Press into frosting at each end of mouth. Decorate with white frosting or melted white chocolate to look like a button

Arrange coated cookie sticks and Honey Stix around head for hair. Spread frosting at edge of hair. Stick waffle wedges into frosting to adhere. Place whole waffle bowl in center to form hat. Cut a piece of blue taffy to fit hat. Pipe rosette and press candy into center
